I purchased this item from Amazon after reading the excellent reviews. Previously I had purchased the NIX X08A frame and found it to be a great product. I particularly liked the auto rotate feature (changing the orientation from landscape to portrait and the photos automatically changed orientation to match the new orientation of the frame. My wife and I decided we would like a larger frame so the smaller frame was placed in my office.
The problem with the NIX X12A frame is this: It does not have the auto rotate feature! This may not be a big deal for most users but almost 60% of our photos are in the portrait mode. The lack of this feature was not mentioned in the Amnazon description or the company’s. While the photos display fine if the frame is in the landscape mode the size of the photo is no llarger than the photo when displayed in the smaller frame. Sadly we decided to return the frame to Amazon. We will wait until NIX adds this feature to the 12 inch frame or a well rated brand offers this feature.
Technical support was excellent via e-mail. Could serve as model for all the big companies that have forgotten what customer service is all about.
I should also mention that Amazon’s return policy is great!

Cheap Coby DP1042-1G 10.4-Inch Digital Photo Frame with MP3 Player (Woodgrain) Discount Review at Digital Photo Frame 10 Inch Shop
I have been in the market for a digital picture frame for quite a while. Finally decided on this unit for its good price at this size/resolution. Some highlights from my experience:
- Nice appearance: good quality wood finish, the 10.4″ image area is large enough for my elderly parents to see the faces in the pictures;
- Image quality: 800×600 and good contrast ratio, but lacks the finesse of a good quality LED monitor;
- Ease of use: it worked well as a basic picture frame. The user manual is not very detailed, but that seems to be a common complaint for all digital frames from the lesser known brands. If you apply some common sense of using computers, it will work fine. For file management, I recommend figuring out all the folder locations and always managing the files from a PC directly.
- Functionality: the frame actually comes with a lot of bells and whistles, and can play many media type. It also comes with a VividShare software that builds customized slide shows with an intuitive UI.
Some suggestions for making this product better:
- Provide the ability to save the work in progress in the Vividshare software. It may take a few iterations to get a slide show right. It is annoying that one has to start over to refine a slide show.
- Add an option to play all pictures and music in a random sequence. The default behavior of the frame is to play all pictures and music, but they are always played in the same sequence. Would be nice to randomize that.
- Make the labels on the remote more readable
Overall, digital picture frames still feel like an immature product category across the board. But if you need to have one now, this is a solid choice given the price, size, and function.

Cheap HP df1010b3 10.4-Inch Digital Picture Frame Discount Review at Digital Photo Frame 10 Inch Shop
Saw this frame on Amazon and immediately liked it. Purchased one on the spot for .99 and got it 2 days later (Amazon Prime Shipping).
Pros:
-The frame took around 5 minutes to assemble, link to the computer and download a few photos and mp3s. Anyone remotely comfortable with working with flash drives would be able to understand photo/mp3 loading without even reading the manual.
-I loaded 10Megapixel images as well as ones sized to 1024×768. The frame could display both sizes, though it took a couple of seconds to load the 10MP images.
-The picture quality is great for the size/price offered.
-It has a slideshow mode with MP3 playback in the background with sufficient volume and quality.
-I also loaded a .avi movie file on the frame, and that played as well!
-I can use it as just an mp3 player and blank out the screen, which is useful when putting my niece to sleep 
Cons:
- As someone has already mentioned, the shuffle setting doesn’t save across power cycles. I mean, the setting still shows as ’shuffle on’ after I switch on the device, but the shuffle doesn’t work… I have to ’shuffle off’ and again ’shuffle on’ for it to work.
- When the slideshow is progressing, there is no way to change the mp3 track that is playing. And there is no randomness in track selection possible. Every time I start a slideshow, it starts playing track1 and then continues down the line.
I haven’t had them for very long, so I cannot comment on the longevity of the frames, but I trust HP quality will not let me down.
While there are cons, they weren’t significant enough for me, so I am happy with the frame. In fact, I recently purchased 2 more for family.
All in all, a product I would recommend for buyers looking for good features and a low price.

Situation: One of the hot gifts for this season was the digital picture frame. It is a great way of showing photos in a slide show format or even short videos in a device the size of a picture frame. You can have it on your desk, in your home or even take it with you when you visit relatives or loved ones.
What is it? The Memory Vue 1040 Plus, 10.4″ LCD Screen is an example of the popular electronic frames available this season. These devices range in size from about 6.3 inches to 10 inches and more.
How it works: These devices are about the size of a picture frame and have an LCD (liquid crystal display) that will “play” photos that you’ve loaded from your digital camera or from your computer. The Memory Vue was able to accept digital content from many types of devices and came with the appropriate USB cable to connect with a camera or computer.
Once your photos, music or videos are in the digital picture frame and you start up the slide show, you can get a series of random fades and timing for each picture, which add to viewing interest. The Memory Vue came with both a brown and a black outer frame for you to mix or match to your room’s color scheme.
What you need: Besides the digital picture frame, you’ll need a source of digital photos such as a digital camera, thumb (USB) drive or a computer.

How hard is it to use? Once you get the photos and or sound file into the digital picture frame, a wireless remote control and a simple menu on the screen make it fairly easy to use.
Findings: In programming my MV-1040 Plus, I found the instructions to be overly simplistic. I wanted to take photos edited in iPhoto on my Mac and download them to the frame, add a music track, and be good to go. I found that the order of the photos on the frame was arranged by the file name so I had to go in and change all the file names to be in an alphanumeric order so that they would show in the right sequence. I also noted that transferring jpeg files from the Mac also seemed to fill up the frames 250 MB memory even though the files weren’t that large.
I finally transferred the jpeg photo files to my PC, and then transferred them to the frame. With some adjustments, I got the slide show to work properly. It would probably be easier if you download the photos directly from your digital camera (they would be in the order you took them in) and just add an mp3 music file for background music for your slide show.
Pros: Very good resolution, decent stereo sound and easy to use once the photos are in. The wireless remote control was convenient and adequate, though not very responsive.
Cons: It was somewhat difficult to program and edit slides. You could duplicate and delete but not easily change the order of the photos. I was not able to adjust the timing for each photo or the rate of fade, which made some photos linger too long, and others not long enough. I would have preferred the ability to customize those settings.
Bottom-line: A fun and interesting way of sharing a digital slide show set to music without having to set up a computer. The digital picture frame seems to be a great gift at a reasonable price. It’s so much more interesting and engaging that the old photo album!

Of all the digital frames I’ve looked at, reviewed and tested, this one performed the best. Great interface and very easy to get set up for my 76-yr old grandmother. Hours of enjoyment for her while she recuperates. I do think that the menu and remote function is not as intuitive as I’d like but sufficient to get it going.
